Roots of Compromise is a garden of radishes on a pedestrian-accessible traffic island, with gatherings and exchanges based on the average four-week cycle of the radish harvests. The choice of the radish is the result of a process of compromise with a variety of bureaucracies who have authority over the island. Through engaging, documenting, and interpreting the necessary processes of compromise and cultivation, Roots of Compromise evokes the relationship between “radicality,” a word with the same root as “radish,” and compromise.
The artists responsible for Roots of Compromise began collaborating in 2010. They operate in Los Angeles.
